Port of Brisbane is an economic powerhouse for Queensland. But we’re not all about cargo – we’re also playing a big role in growing Queensland’s cruise industry!
The new, world-class $177 million Brisbane International Cruise Terminal was completed in mid-2020 and once operational, will play a vital role in growing Queensland’s cruise industry.
The new cruise terminal has been designed to cater for the biggest cruise ships in the world and will provide passengers with a world-class experience. It will become a gateway to the richness of our region, helping to showcase all that south-east Queensland has to offer, and a vital pillar of Brisbane and Queensland’s tourism economy.
It will also deliver a major, long-term economic and tourism boost. Once operational, within 20 years it will potentially triple Brisbane’s cruise industry to:

The new cruise terminal has been designed to cater for the biggest cruise ships in the world and will provide passengers with a world-class experience. It will become a gateway to the richness of our region, helping to showcase all that south-east Queensland has to offer, and a vital pillar of Brisbane and Queensland’s tourism economy.
It will also deliver a major, long-term economic and tourism boost. Once operational, within 20 years it will potentially triple Brisbane’s cruise industry to:
- support 3,750 jobs
- bring over 760,000 visitors annually
- contribute $1.3 billion in net expenditure into the Brisbane economy
When it opens, the Brisbane International Cruise Terminal will be able to accommodate the largest cruise ships in the world. We’ve also worked with the cruise lines to ensure it will offer a seamless experience for passengers with:
- a two-level terminal building that includes a café and light retail
- onsite paid car parking for around 900 cars
- access for coaches, taxis and rideshare
- luggage collection and drop-off areas
- designated arrivals, check-in, security and quarantine areas
- public open spaces, including a plaza area and waterfront promenade
The cruise terminal project proudly supported the local construction industry including, on average, approximately 245 jobs during each year of construction. This included many local contractors and consultants, suppliers and manufacturers.
The terminal building & civils Principal Contractor was Hindmarsh Construction Australia, a leading Australian construction company.

In 2018/19, the CLIA reported the cruise sector to be worth $5.2 billion to Australia’s economy in 2018/19.
More locally and over the long-term, the new Brisbane International Cruise Terminal will generate long-lasting economic and tourism benefits for our region and for Queensland.
Once operational, the new terminal will welcome more cruise ships and more visitors to our city, open-up new itineraries for travellers, and support more economic growth in our region.
