nest boxes
Port of Brisbane land sustains many ecologically important features including bushland corridors that provide habitat and physical buffers for native species. To support these native species, PBPL has installed nest boxes in three buffer areas, along Pritchard Street, Wynnum North Road and Lucinda Drive.
These nest boxes provide important habitat for many native birds and animals including squirrel gliders, bats, native bees, wood ducks, brush tail possums, and rainbow lorikeets. The boxes are inspected annually, with cameras used to take photos of the species inhabiting the nest boxes.

invasive species
All general cargo and container ports, including the Port of Brisbane, can potentially provide entry points into Australia for invasive species. Biosecurity officers are based permanently at the Port, and cargo is randomly selected for inspection.
Please watch this video that explains the importance of reporting invasive species.
Port of Brisbane supports the efforts to detect biosecurity risks through our partnership with the Queensland Seaports eDNA Surveillance Program. This program aims for earlier detection invasive marine species to provide the best chance of effective management or eradication.

WEED SURVEYS
Since 2001, Port of Brisbane has conducted annual weed monitoring surveys to identify the introduction and spread of priority weed species on port land. Surveys are conducted by an environmental scientist.
