$100k funding boost to welcome more students to the Port

Hundreds more school students will have the opportunity to visit and learn about the Port of Brisbane thanks to a $100,000 funding boost through the Port’s Community Partnership Program.

Tangalooma EcoMarines and Moreton Bay Environment Education Centre (MBEEC), have each received a $50,000 funding boost to support their efforts to inspire and educate students on environmental sustainability.

Port of Brisbane Pty Ltd (PBPL) CEO Neil Stephens said the Port was delighted to bolster its support for its longstanding environmental education partners.

“Every year we welcome school groups from across south-east Queensland to Fisherman Islands with our partners EcoMarines and MBEEC, providing students with a unique opportunity to explore the Port’s natural environment,” said Mr Stephens.

“Most recently we welcomed 150 very excited and enthusiastic Year 3 students to the Port from the Islamic College of Brisbane visiting through the Moreton Bay Environment Education Centre. The students explored our dedicated shore bird roost on Fisherman Islands and learnt firsthand how to help protect local waterways, natural habitats, eco-systems and the environment more broadly.”

“Through this $100,000 funding boost, we’re looking forward to growing the number of school students visiting the Port, helping to build awareness of the economic role the Port plays to Queensland as well as our leading environmental management programs in place to protect and enhance our natural surroundings.”

In FY23, the Port of Brisbane welcomed a total of 24 educational groups with 549 students.

This year, PBPL has increased its total community funding, committing approximately $400,000 through its community partnerships and grants programs.
